Malaysia ΓÇô Performance based fire engineering
The new Panasonic plant in Malaysia has a single storey of over 57,000m2 or 5.7 hectares. Within the building the combined process elements form a single fire compartment of over 32,000m2. As the building is approximately 320m x 180m┬▓ the egress distances are extended.
Modelling of the egress and fire using software specific for the purpose is necessary to ensure occupants can safely escape in the event of a fire.
As with similar projects we review the fire loads as the electronics industry use flammable and toxic products in the manufacturing process. The storage, controls and process information is discussed with the project engineers so that we have a clear understanding of the potential fire risk, fire rate of growth and heat release rate.
Fire scenarios reflecting the worst credible events are then developed and modelled.
